The Philippine Educators in the United States of America recently donated to the Scholarship Fund of the Colegio to support needy students. Originally, the fund is given to students in the Instituto Espanol or the Spanish Institute of Letran. However, since Instituto Espanol had long been abolished and is now replaced by elective subjects being offered to students taking up courses in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the fund is allocated for students who cannot afford to finish college.
The scholarship is offered in memory of Prof. Romeo C. Gatan and in honor of Dr. Romeo S. Munoz, bothLetran alumni.
The donation was personally given by Soledad Munoz, wife of Dr. Munoz, in a courtesy meeting with Fr. Tamerlane Lana, O.P. on June 2. Mrs. Munoz was accompanied by her son, Francis.
A certificate of donation was given to Mrs. Munoz, acknowledging her family’s generosity. Such would then be turned over to the Philippine American Historical Society Museum and Archives. Pictures during the courtesy visit and the handing of donation would be published in Filipino newspapers and magazines
in Chicago with the hope of encouraging other Letranites to respond to the appeal of Dr. Munoz for more like donations to Letran.
